Big Bug Shootout Runner Up

After struggling to qualify in the first two rounds of qualifying the Fore Racing crew got it together for the final qualifying pass. On the third pass the car went 6.187 only two thousands of a second slower than the number one qualifier.  First round we got a bye run into the final four. The second round pairing was a close battle with Tay Woykowski  but, we moved on to finals. We knew the final round was going to be a tough one with Warren Skaggs so, we went a little to aggressive with the set up which made the car hook really hard sending it towards the tree so the pass was aborted.   After a not so good showing in Lakeland we were thrilled to come home with 2nd place finish.

It's a Wrap in Lakeland

After an 18 month break the ECPRA's wildest driver

got back behind the wheel to show off the new ProShocker 2.

The first pass was a wild wheel standing lift off but the excitement ended soon when we found out the transmissions was toast. So with the help of our Puerto Rican family and some crazy California guys we tried everything we could to get ready for first round of eliminations but we did not succeed. So the car went back on the trailer to fight another day. The most asked question of the day was… "Is that a wrap?"

Fore Racing Team Wins VW Drag Night 2010

This victory was huge! It was just what the team needed. Again, we were plagued with transmission problems on the first qualifying pass. So, the Fore Racing Team went to work on getting the spare gear box in the car. The car was ready for the final round of qualifying and the new Geers Engineering power plant did not disappoint us by laying down a 6.009 pass to take the number one position. We got a bye run in the first round so the semi finals would pair us up with Tay Woykowski for the second time this year. It was another tight race with Tay but we advanced to the finals. The Pro Stock finals boiled down to the class’ premier horsepower makers and the points frontrunners in another Fore Vs Skaggs final. This time the Fore Racing Team was victorious.

Dateline Dayton: Game, Set, Match

The Fore Race Team took to the highway this Labor Day weekend to the city of Dayton Ohio. With an abbreviated crew consisting of Alan, Debbie (Alan’s wife) and Rob (crew chief), the idea of back to back wins was on the teams mind. Off the trailer the car rolled off a 6:12et @ 113.06 pass, which held as the number 2 qualifier and what was the teams best qualifying time of the day.  A seven car field awaited elimination rounds with Team Fore set to go up against JD Curry in round 1. Due to mechanical problems JD could not make the round giving Team Fore a bye run. Round 2 paired Team Fore with Damon Harmon of Harmon Racing. The team knew they needed to find a little extra for this round so everyone put their heads together and came up with some adjustments to try on the car.  WOW! The adjustments were spot on with Team Fore getting the win with a 6:09 @ 113.34 mph which would send Team Fore to the finals. On the other side of the ladder Ollie Frey beat Warren Skaggs in the semis and the final round was set. A couple last minute adjustments to the Pro Shocker 2 were made and with lane choice Alan chose the right lane.  Both cars staged and the tree lit green. Out of the gate both cars were dead even. A 1.28 60-foot time saw Alan take a slight lead and with a first to second gear shift the lead became obvious and the Pro Shocker 2 went through the lights with the win. Not only did Alan come away with the win, but the final pass also set the low ET of the event with a 6.03, along with top MPH of 115.07.  Now it all comes down to the Farmington Dragway on October 24, 2010. With Warren Skaggs currently having the points lead and Team Fore looking for a 3 peat, it may just be another “Battle at the OK Corral” with two of the top gun slingers in the ECPRA. The team that survives the longest will walk away with the 2010 ECPRA Pro Stock Title and the loser gets a bumper sticker which reads “wait till next year”

WITH A SWING AND A MISS, STRIKE THREE
AND THE SEASON WAS OVER

The Fore Racing team rolled into Farmington Dragway on October 24, 2010 for the final race of the ECPRA season with all the gold on the line for this event. The team had prepared extra carefully to have the ProShocker 2 on its best behavior for this race.

Off the trailer the car pulled a monster wheel stand in 1st round qualifying carrying the

wheels in both 1st and 2nd gear. The launch was straight but the car just did not build the speed numbers the team was looking for only posting a 6.17 ET with a top speed of 113 MPH. After some minor adjustments round 2 qualifying still indicated troubles for the team as the launch was heavy to the left and was only able to post a 6.13 and a MPH of 114. After two rounds of qualifying and nothing to write home about the team decided it was time to turn aggressive. Some major adjustments were made to the car in preparation for the third and final round of qualifying. The team needed a big number this time as they were falling further down the ladder each round. After the burnout Alan backed the car up to stage but after shifting out of reverse the car would not go into 1st gear. As with so many times this season it appeared the team had been plagued with transmission troubles again.

With a throw out of the life anchor the car was connected to the tow vehicle and towed

to the pits where the crew began what would be an almost impossible task to remove and replace the transmission in approximately 30 minutes to make first round of eliminations. The sheet metal, motor and transmission were removed and the transmission was replaced with a fresh one off the shelf. The motor was bolted back in only to find the flywheel was scrubbing the inside of the bell housing. With time running out the motor was pulled back out and the bell housing was cut in order to allow the flywheel to clear. After putting the motor in for a second time all was good. The sheet metal was placed back on the car and with only minutes to go the car was towed to the starting line.

A lot of questions remained for the whirl wind repair. Had something been left off or

loose? Was something not adjusted correctly? All the answers would be known in

approximately 6 seconds.

Team Fore lined up in the left lane with Tay in the right. With both cars staged the tree lit and they were off. Team Fore launched with the car darting to the left. Alan corrected the wheel and the car straightened out. A one/two shift and the car would not go into second gear. Alan skipped over second and jammed the car into third where he went through the lights. What should have been a defeat for the team turned into a victory as Tay had troubles off the line and could not catch the ProShocker 2.

Now with a little breathing room and some time between rounds the team had time to check the transmission linkage which was the suspected problem. But at the same time the team’ s problems were growing. The next round placed Team Fore against Warren Skaggs which meant it was time for “Rumble in the asphalt jungle.” Both drivers were tied dead even for the 2010 ECPRA points championship. Just as on October 26, 1881 the battle of the OK Corral took place between Wyatt Earp and Ike Clanton it was time for the 2010 ECPRA’ s two top gun slingers to put it on the line approximately 129 years later.

Both cars rolled through the bleach box and burnouts followed. Moving to the line both

cars pre staged and staged. The tree went into countdown and the green light lit. Both

cars were out of gate almost equal and with a shift from first to second Team Fore saw

their hopes for the 2010 championship get smaller and smaller with Warren Skaggs

driving away. For the first time ever Team Fore had been bitten by two transmission

failures in one event.

Just as the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies are waiting on

the 2011 season, so is Team Fore. With second gear exploding in the transmission it was just like a “ Swing and a miss, strike three” and the game was over.

Team Fore would like to congratulate Skaggs Racing (who went on the win the

event in Farmington) for their 2010 ECPRA championship. Win or lose Warren has been a pleasure to race against this year and we look forward to racing him in 2011.
